bad news coming

A standard rule in Washington, D.C. is that when you want to bury news, especially bad news – you release it late Friday afternoon – so late that the evening newscasts may not see it.

Or may not have time to get a good handle on it.

So what can we say about Romney leaking the announcement that Paul Ryan was to be his running mate? That was leaked so late on a Friday night that it was being pondered and discussed well into Saturday early hours.

And the "official" announcement? That was set for Saturday 9AM EDT.

Maybe Mittens was trying to look "cool" or different from usual Washington political rules by doing this – but I think he did to deflect from his income tax issue.

Why else leak it so late, and do the official thing so early?

On a weekend?

With the Olympics still on TV?

With cable news able to stay on and talk and talk and ponder about your choice? [Even at midnight]

Or – Maybe, just maybe the Romney campaign did know this was bad news?

What's your take on the timing?
