birth-control-pillsThe war on women!

If you have been paying even the slightest bit of attention to the news this election cycle – you see and hear these words: the war on women.

I personally dislike the term war on anything [war on drugs, war on poverty, etc.] because they are not wars and they should not be seen as a brutal entity like war.

But in this case – it is a real war on women – an assault – an attack.

Below are some snippets of what women are subjected to in today’s political climate.

[There is simply not enough room in a short book to do justice to all that is being said and being waged in this war – and I’d never get the book done as the assault on women continues daily.]

  • States are mandating intrusive and non-necessary medical procedures such as vaginal probes, abdominal ultrasounds and more in order to have a legal abortion.

Why? Allegedly to make sure women understand and know about the fetus before they abort. And – oh yes – the women have to pay for these expensive procedures. And in some states, the woman must have the video of the procedure in front of her [but she is “allowed” to close her eyes.]

  • There are laws allowing a physician to lie to a woman about fetal abnormalities. In other words, it is legal for the physician to say the fetus is fine when, in fact, it is not.
  • Women are still being blamed for any attack if they are wearing what is perceived as sexy clothing – and that “sexy” is in the mind of the person saying it is!

If you are raped or assaulted, and the rapist/attacker says you were wearing sexy clothing – I guess you “were asking for it.” Sexy clothing seems to be short skirts, tank tops, or bathing suits.

  • Women are to be blamed if they are out after dark – apparently the only reasons to be out after dark are to get attacked?
  • Besides, as some politicians are now saying, you can’t get pregnant if you are raped…your body somehow shuts down the reproductive system…

And so you are not allowed to have an abortion if you get pregnant from a rape – because you apparently were acting in a consensual manner as your reproductive system worked!

And, and, and…….

  • We are again hearing derogatory terms used for women who are achievers but not for men who achieve.
  • Woman who have college educations [or more] are presented in a negative light.

There have always been more derogatory terms for older women, but rarely for older men.

These words and thoughts have been a part of the culture for a long time – but now they are front and center!

AGAIN!

It's deja vu!!

As Santayana once said:

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

We need to educate today's women and young girls as to our history so they never again become victims of this particular "war."

No more deja vu!!
