World Mental Health Day

Today, October 10, is World Mental Health Day which was first established in 1992.[I only know that because I had to look it up.]

I myself, had been a mental health professional for many years having been previously licensed in two jurisdictions. I didn’t know we had a World Mental Health Day until today and I only knew it because my watch told me – and it told me I can get an award if I meditate for 10 minutes today. I know I could turn those alerts off, but I find them fun – but will I meditate for 10 minutes? Probably not.

btw – I call my watch my Dick Tracy watch – having once had a toy version – now they are real!

I have already done other exercises and will probably do more general exercising then maybe I’ll sit quietly for a period of time, but not “officially” meditating. I have my own version of what is meditation. It doesn’t always meet the definitions that other people use.

I’m feeling good today because I more or less finished book number one. It needs some tweaking and I need to write up some descriptions and all of that for Amazon but by tomorrow it will be up there.

I made myself a fancy espresso to celebrate. We have a new espresso maker and I’m still learning how to make it taste like if I went to a coffee shop and bought one – but I’m not there yet.

I’ve been fiddling with covers for the book and below is maybe what the cover will be. I’m not fully decided on this yet. It needs to sit in my head for a bit. I’m not sure I like white covers.

What makes you feel good? Finishing this book makes me feel really good because it’s been a long time since I have written and published a book. And since I started on this journey of figuring out how to unstick my own brain or get it unstuck, I have several other books in the proverbial pipeline and once I get this one done, the flow will happen.

I knew about this day, but I forgot about it. No reminders for me. I’m with you on meditating. Oftentimes, my art is a form of meditation. Walking outside is meditative for me. Just being quiet for a moment works too.

    Congratulations on your book.

Thank you for your comment. Sometimes I can meditate but not for very long. I prefer like you to be outside walking in the woods walking on the beach just walking. I also consider my thinking about what to write a form of meditation. There’s no specific rule as to how one meditates. The book is still being edited. I found some inconsistencies and a friend of mine is proofreading it again after I fixed some of the typos that I didn’t find, but she did.

Thank you for your comment. Like you I meditate in many different ways. Sometimes I do what’s considered official meditation but most of the time I consider my walks in the woods on a beach out with my dog to be a form of meditation. Also thinking about what I wanna write is a way of meditating just like your art is a form of meditating. The book is still not edited because I found some inconsistencies and a good friend of mine found some typos that I missed so I’m still working on it. I’m not in a hurry.

Thank you for your comment. My forms of meditation are basically things that I like to do including sometimes just sitting and doing what would pass for official meditating. Even writing books is meditating just like your doing art is meditating. Here’s to all forms of meditation.

Lynn, how wonderful that your book is so complete only finishing touches are required. May I make a suggestion? Although references to um, elimination, are popular, they are unnecessary and will eliminate some possible buyers. If you eliminate the word “poopy” from your cover, no meaning will be lost, and you’ll have a bigger buyer pool. And no one will ever complain. I write (3 books on Amazon, 910 articles online) entirely without swearing or references to elimination, and no one has ever complained. I hope you’re okay with me making the suggestion. All the best with your sales.
