{"id":1365,"date":"2013-06-17T15:49:11","date_gmt":"2013-06-17T22:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.graywolfproductions.com\/graywolfproductions\/?p=1365"},"modified":"2013-06-18T13:16:56","modified_gmt":"2013-06-18T20:16:56","slug":"technology-stress-and-backup-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.graywolfproductions.com\/graywolfproductions\/technology-stress-and-backup-plans","title":{"rendered":"Technology, Stress, and Backup Plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"aligncenter\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">OY OY OY<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">My computer stopped working.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">The hard drive crashed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">I have all my work on it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">I am totally stressed out.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">What do I do to survive all this stress?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">\u00a0###########<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">We now live in a high-tech culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Technology is part of our everyday lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1367 aligncenter\" alt=\"our worl is technology\" src=\"https:\/\/www.graywolfproductions.com\/graywolfproductions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/stick_figure_balancing_gadgets_9599-283x300.jpg\" width=\"283\" height=\"300\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">We use computers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">We have Wi-Fi all over the place!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">We have iPads and tablets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">We have iPhones and smart phones.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Many of us work online, bank and pay bills online, communicate online, and generally love the technology available to us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">That is until it does not work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">ISPs stop working, or work so slowly that they are useless.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Programs don\u2019t do what we thought they should do.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">And then there is the:<\/span><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/h2>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 24px;\">&#8220;OMG \u2013 my hard drive crashed!&#8221;<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Any of the above issues, especially the last one, can lead to stress &#8211; so we have to figure out how to cope with that stress \u2013 preferably planning for it ahead of time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Why? Because technology issues are a part of our lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Having had many hard drives crash over the years, you\u2019d think I\u2019d have learned to back up but I never did. I only made copies of some of my writings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">But the last time I bought a computer, I bought a Mac laptop. Laptops are more prone to issues because they can get dropped, they can get stolen and they can get things bumped into them, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Especially if you have pets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">When I got the new computer, I actually bought a years worth of a backup plan called Crashplan. When you buy such a plan, it is with the hope that you never ever have to use it and see if it really works.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">So when <strong>my<\/strong> \u201cOMG the hard drive crashed\u201d happened, I was sort of stress-ready.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Having read good things about Crashplan, a bulk of my stress was alleviated because I knew that all of what had been on my computer was somewhere up there in the \u201ccloud.\u201d [Fingers crossed.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1366 alignleft\" alt=\"yoga\" src=\"https:\/\/www.graywolfproductions.com\/graywolfproductions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/stick_figure_gymnastics_icon_3620-300x300.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.graywolfproductions.com\/graywolfproductions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/stick_figure_gymnastics_icon_3620-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.graywolfproductions.com\/graywolfproductions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/stick_figure_gymnastics_icon_3620-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.graywolfproductions.com\/graywolfproductions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/stick_figure_gymnastics_icon_3620-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.graywolfproductions.com\/graywolfproductions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/stick_figure_gymnastics_icon_3620-220x220.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.graywolfproductions.com\/graywolfproductions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/stick_figure_gymnastics_icon_3620.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">But a dead hard drive is still stressful. So to get more calmed down, I did some yoga and meditating. I also took my puppy on a few walks and talked to my son and a friend\u2026. And vocalizing the stress helped.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">It all came down to this\u2026I kept telling myself that there really was nothing else for me to do\u2026the worst-case scenario was that I\u2019d have to start all that work all over again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">The ending?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">I picked up the computer and started the restore process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">A few glitches and errors on my part and it was working \u2013 slowly [ISP issues] &#8211; but working.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Then many [many, many] hours later, the message was on my screen that my restore was done.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Everything was restored to where it had been\u2026amazing technology!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">All in the clouds&#8230;&#8230;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1372 alignright\" alt=\"cloud storage\" src=\"https:\/\/www.graywolfproductions.com\/graywolfproductions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/multiple_cloud_database_12137-300x187.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"168\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">That I was tired for a few days after this was a signal that I had been more stressed than I thought\u2026.so more yoga, more puppy walks, and more relaxing in the sun was called for\u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Lessons learned&#8230;you need:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">back up plans<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">yoga <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">healthy eating<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">great tech support<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">great customer service<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">patience<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14px;\">Thoughts?
