Every so often these 2 writings stick in my head. Now is one of those times. For me they have the same theme.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Sand\"I am not sure when I first read <\/span>Ozymandias<\/em> – it may have been in<\/span>\u00a0grammar school or high school but I know it was way before college and it’s always resonated with me. As does <\/span>Yertle the Turtle<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

O<\/b>zymandias<\/b><\/p>\n

I\u00a0met a traveler from an antique land
\nwho said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
\nstand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
\nhalf sunk,a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
\nand wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
\ntell that its sculptor well those passions read
\nwhich yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
\nthe hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
\nand on the pedestal these words appear —
\nMy name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
\nlook at my works, ye mighty, and despair!”
\nNothing besides remains. Round the decay
\nof that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
\nthe lone and level sands stretch far away.’<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 by\u00a0Percy Shelly<\/p>\n

It’s that last couple of sentences about look at my works and despair. Yet nothing beside remains [except the legs and the sand]<\/span><\/p>\n

It speaks to the futility of a lot of the grandiose ideas and \u00a0projects that we do thinking we are more important than anyone else. <\/span><\/p>\n

Projects that probably cost a lot in terms of money, human time, and human lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then there is Yertle, which also has the same kind of theme running through it.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m Yertle the Turtle!<\/span>
\n Oh, marvelous me!<\/span>
\n \"turtle\"<\/span>
\n For I am the ruler<\/span>
\n of all that I see!…<\/span><\/p>\n

That plain little turtle whose name was just Mack,<\/span>
\n Decided he\u2019d taken enough. And he had.<\/span>
\n And that plain little lad got a bit mad.<\/span>
\n And that plain little Mack did a plain little thing.<\/span>
\n He burped! And his burp shook the throne of the king!<\/span><\/p>\n

By Dr. Seuss<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yertle wants to rule everything he can see but Mack, the lowly turtle, burps and destroys the throne of the king.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sand, burps, time and tide can wreak havoc on our\u00a0egomaniacal\u00a0plans. Be careful how you treat others and the environment. Karma!! Leave a legacy that helps future generations; not glorifies you????<\/span><\/p>\n
